Counseling and Student Services (CASS)

Counseling and Student Services encompasses the program areas of school counseling, school psychology, school social work, Student Support Team coordination, and Section 504 coordination and compliance.

Magnet Programs

Administers WCPSS' magnet schools programs.

Maintenance and Operations

Maintenance and Operations keeps our schools safe, clean, and comfortable so that teachers and students can focus on learning. It has four sub-departments: Buildings and Grounds, Custodial Services, Energy and Physical Plant, and General Services.

Prevention Services

Prevention Services provides programs that support the academic, social, and emotional growth of students, and that link our families and community to schools. We provide student support programs such as the Partnership for Educational Success, Mentoring Programs, Extended Learning Programs, and a host of other services not provided during the regular school day.  Our department is responsible for the implementation of the Wake County Public School System Before- and After-School Programs and the Community Volunteer Program.  Hispanic/ Latino Outreach Services is also housed in Prevention Services and seeks to provide essential support services to Hispanic/ Latino families living in our Wake County community.

Positive Behavior Support

Provides assistance to schools in developing more effective strategies for working with challenging behavior.

Purchasing

Buys supplies, equipment and so on for the system. Also handles surplus equipment sales.

Real Estate Services

Buys, leases and manages land and buildings for schools. Also handles negotiating joint-use agreements.

Risk Management

Handles WCPSS Insurance, workman's compensation and workplace safety.

School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)

The council serves as advisors to the Wake County Public School System's Superintendent and Board of Education on student health and well-being.
