Emergency/Crisis Response and Recovery Planning
Emergency/Crisis Response and Recovery Plans
The Wake County Public School System is committed to providing a safe and orderly learning environment for all students. In support of this commitment, the Board of Education revised policy to include provisions for the development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive emergency operation plans for all schools and administrative sites. The related Rules and Procedures provide guidelines for school administrators to include all plans being National Incident Management System (NIMS) compliant.
With the adoption of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), each school now has both an Emergency Response Team and a Crisis Intervention Team, which may have overlapping members. The Emergency Response Team focuses on prevention and response to emergencies that impact schools. The Crisis Intervention Team provides for the emotional recovery of students and staff affected by crises.
The Crisis Intervention Team and Emergency Response Teams are provided training opportunities during the school year by the Counseling & Student Services and the Security Department. All schools receive training on response to and assistance with a crisis.
