About Us
The mission of the Instructional Services Division is to work collaboratively with our customers to promote and support effective instruction for all students. To achieve that mission, colleagues from the three interdependent parts of Instructional Services (Curriculum and Instruction, Evaluation and Research, and Student Support Services) work collaboratively to assist schools to focus on answering three critical questions: what are students expected to learn, have students learned what is expected, and what do we do when students have or haven’t learned what is expected. Curriculum and Instruction staff supports schools in understanding the objectives of the Standard Course of Study, the instructional strategies that can be used to achieve those objectives, and how aligned formative assessments can gauge students’ mastery of the objectives throughout the teaching and learning process. Evaluation and Research staff members support schools in understanding what summative assessment data tell us about what students have learned, and what programs and strategies have resulted in the desired learning outcomes. Student Support Services’ programs and services help to modify instructional strategies and provide the support needed for students who have or haven’t learned what is expected.
