Description

The body of curriculum at Martin Gifted and Talented Magnet Middle School is based on the belief that all students possess gifts and talents that need to be identified, valued, nurtured, and rewarded. Martin offers an innovative approach to education by blending core academic studies with a wide variety of elective courses. Electives enhance and enrich the core studies curricula. At Martin Magnet Middle School, you can "Dream It - Achieve It!".

The gifted and talented program at Martin Magnet Middle offers electives in math, science, social studies, language arts, technology, art, music, drama, dance, career and technical education, foreign language, media, and physical education. This model provides students with a wide variety of courses that have an interest beyond their regular academic classes.

Students spend four periods each day in core areas of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. During their three elective periods, students explore new areas of interest or study a particular area in depth. This allows students time to hone their talents, or explore new areas of interest. Elective courses are offered on year-long, semester, or quarter basis; therefore, a student has the potential to take up to twelve different electives per year.

All students receive differentiated educational services in the four core areas of instruction: Language Arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Two AG resource teachers provide support and assistance to both classroom teacher and their students. In the electives program, many classes, particularly in the arts, are structured so that a student has opportunities from the beginning level, all the way to an advance level of study.

The Gifted and Talented program addresses the gifts and talents of all students so there are NO performance measures, auditions, or tests that must be passed before a student is accepted into the school.
