Curriculum: Traditional

Traditional curriculum schools offer students high quality instruction, opportunities for advanced studies, creative exploration and extra-curricular activities in a nurturing educational setting. Some of the highest-performing schools in Wake County are traditional curriculum schools.

Description

Rand Road Elementary is a traditional community school that combines high academic standards and a nurturing environment for its approximately 550 students. The school day incorporates a 2-hour Literacy Block with guided reading in every classroom and “Write From the Beginning”, a program designed to increase students’ writing skills. There is also a 1-hour Mathematics Block as well as time devoted to Science and Social Studies. In addition, teachers use “Thinking Maps” and a completely networked computer lab to enhance students’ use of organizational and technological skills.

The school has posted gains in its EOG scores for the past three years and was recognized as a School of Distinction in 2002-2003. Programs such as Project Achieve with “Raider Time” for tutorial and enrichment, English as a Second Language, Special Education in resource and self-contained classrooms, Title 1 and the Accelerated Learning Program all provide added support to students to continue to grow academically.

Rand Road Elementary’s highly dedicated staff and active PTA unites the many academic programs with events such as the Rand Road Run, the school’s annual “Fun & Fund Raising” event, quarterly awards assemblies and extensive Character Education activities in order to provide an educational environment…where loving, laughter and learning go hand in hand.
