Description
Washington Elementary Magnet offers the Gifted and Talented Program. The GT program is based on the belief that every child has gifts and talents to be valued and nurtured. This program promotes choice for the student and parent. Children explore a wide variety of learning experiences through core and elective courses that continually develop individual strengths and interests. There are no tests, auditions, or performance standards for acceptance into the Gifted and Talented Program. All students have the opportunity to take elective classes. Students in a GT magnet school take two electives everyday!
Instructional programs are cooperatively developed by teachers, parents, and children. The program is innovative and challenges all children to reach their fullest potential with experiences that lead to success. Resources, technology and materials are readily available to support and supplement the instructional program and meet changing individual needs. The electives allow for the unique educational needs of children.
Washington GT Magnet Elementary School was the 2003 recipient of the Ronald P. Simpson Award given by Magnet Schools of America recognizing it as the number one magnet school in the nation!!
