School Security

The WCPSS strives to help ensure that all students and staff have a safe and secure learning and working environment.

To assist in that goal, most WCPSS schools are outfitted with electronic security systems. These systems include state of the art computerized Burglar Alarm Systems, Digital Video Recording Systems, Access Control Systems and a Computerized Keying System. The WCPSS is currently working on the implementation of a Global Card Access Control System.

The WCPSS currently is the only school system in the state of North Carolina that has its own Central Monitoring Station that monitors all intrusion or burglar alarm activity throughout the entire school system, and has the ability to access remote viewing of all Digital Video Recording Systems at all the High Schools, Middle Schools, and Administrative Offices. The WCPSS Alarm Monitoring Center (AMC) is a Proprietary Central Station that provides protection to the property and equipment of each facility.

The combination of Electronic Keying, Burglar Alarm Systems and Digital Video Recording Systems (DVR)'s that are maintained by the WCPSS are absolutely essential to schools and administrative buildings being safe and secure. All of these systems have been proven to be effective tools in deterring theft, assaults and vandalism.
